Doug Hewitt was born in Northampton, and started playing the piano aged 4. He also sang as a chorister at St. Matthew's church for 7 years and began playing the flute from the age of 12.



From 1979-84 he studied at The Royal Academy of Music, playing in concerts regularly and accompanying many fellow students in examinations and auditions, as well as gaining an LRAM Diploma.

Doug's teaching career began in 1982 with private pupils in S.E. London and at 2 schools in Surrey.  

Since 1988 he has lived and worked in and around Oxted, and now teaches privately having stopped his work at schools. Doug is in great demand as a pianist with regular work accompanying choirs, singers and instrumentalists for examinations, auditions and concerts.  Choir tours to Barcelona, Normandy, Bruges, Prague and Verona have been enjoyed over the past 14 years.



Doug worked as an examiner for ABRSM from 1998-2011, visiting many parts of the UK and also travelling to Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
